چکیده

Effect of high temperature exposure on properties of cement mortar containing municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) bottom ash as partial natural aggregate replacement is analyzed in the paper. The measurements of mechanical properties, bulk density, matrix density, total open porosity, sorption and desorption isotherms are done on samples exposed to the temperatures of 20°C to 1000°C. TGA analysis is performed as well. Finally, the studied samples are analyzed by IR spectroscopy in order to evaluate TGA data. Keywords—Cement mortar, high temperature exposure, MSWI bottom ash, natural aggregate replacement, mechanical properties.

Effects of number of freeze-thaw cycles and freezing temperature on mode I and mode II fracture toughness of cement mortar

Natural and artificial materials including rocks and cement-based materials such as concrete and cement mortar are affected both physically and chemically by various natural factors known as weathering factors. The freeze-thaw process, as a weathering factor, considerably affects the properties of rocks and concrete. Therefore, the effect of the freeze-thaw process on the physical and mechanica...

Formation of Humic Substances in Weathered MSWI Bottom Ash

The study aimed at evaluating the humic substances (HSs) content from municipal solid waste incinerator (MSWI) bottom ash and its variation with time and the effect of temperature on HSs formation. The process suggested by IHSS was applied to extract HSs from two different bottom ash samples, and the extracted efficiency with NaOH and Na4P2O7 was compared. MSWI bottom ash samples were incubated...

An Attempt to Reduce Materials Cost of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete Production

Background: Municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) bottom ash contains a not insignificant amount of metallic aluminum, while circulating fluidized bed combustion (CFBC) fly ash is rich in active SiO 2. To reduce the materials cost of autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) production, these two types of solid waste could theoretically be used as the aerating agent and silica source, respectively....

Effect of a Carboxylic Acid on Rheological Properties of a High Alumina Cement Mortar

In this work, we studied the effect of carboxylic acid on the rheological properties of a high-alumina cement mortar (CH45) produced by the Algerian firm REFRACTAL.The investigated properties are setting time, water consumption, electrical conductivity, pH, density and the compressive strength. The results show a setting time of about 200 min for the acid...
